  1. I don't think her 1st amendment rights were violated because she did have the ability to say what she wanted to and her opinion. You can't help it if people got angry over it.

  2. 1. Yeah, she was discriminated against by Perez and he was basically ragging on her opinion because she didnt agree with him.

    2. Her rights were "fondled" but not overly violated. She was just speaking her opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I do think she is being discriminated against and she spoke the truth she shouldnt be punished for speaking the truth

    ReplyDelete
  4. Perez hilton is taking this to far and hes gay why would you even ask that question

    ReplyDelete
  5. I think her rights were violated, she should be able to speak her opinion

    ReplyDelete
  6. I think Carrie has the right to express her beliefs. She was definitely discriminated.

Her first amendment was crossed. She was pressured into apologizing later which she shouldn't have needed to. It was how she was raised.

    ReplyDelete
  7. She wasnt discriminated against for her opinions, she was discriminated against for making a sex tape

    ReplyDelete
  8. I agree with Zerve... Perez freaked out way too much.

    ReplyDelete
  9. 1.i think she is being discriminated against for her answer. Her answer was her opinion and she has the right think it

    ReplyDelete
  10. I do believe that Carrie Prejean was discriminated not just against her answer but her religious views also. I mean Hilton asked what do you think clearly asking for her "opinion" how can you just an opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I don't agree with you first amendment. She was "booed" for her opinions

    ReplyDelete
  12. i dont believe her first amendment rights were violated since she spoke her mind and wasnt punished or anything for it

    ReplyDelete
  13. She represents a state that supports gay marriage. she should have the same views as the state she represents

    ReplyDelete
  14. that is true.. however i dont think she should be fired from her views

    ReplyDelete
  15. Her rights were not violated. she didnt lose because of her views she lost because she is "dumb"

    ReplyDelete
  16. I think there was definetly a line that was crossed when they said her answer was wrong and all the critizism she received for stating her religious belief of same-sex marriage. For her belief I don't think there is any better way to answer the question. I do believe the line was crossed for critisizing her religious belief but I am not sure if it violates the 1st amendment on religion, but I do feel it violates her 1st amendment right to freedom of speech by how they tried to quite her or make her apologize for her answer and beliefs

    ReplyDelete
  17. i agree with what Kristin said

    ReplyDelete
  18. I don't think they should have asked the question anyways because no matter what she answered; there was going to be people who wouldn't like the answer, and get angry.

    ReplyDelete
  19. 1. I believe Carrie Prejean has definitely been discriminated against for having her opinion. Perez HIlton argued that it wasn't about her opinion--she simply gave a bad answer. However, the answer he thought she should have given doesn't answer the question he asked. He asked for her opinion and she gave it. He didn't ask her "Do you think that the states should decide for themselves whether to authorize gay marriage?"--he asked her if she thought the other states SHOULD authorize gay marriage.

It's hard to know, however, if she lost the pageant because of her answer. If she did, then she was definitely discriminated against in that regard.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I disagree with Da Blogger...just because her state is for gay marriage does not mean that she has to believe in same-sex marriage. Everyone has a right to their religious belief and opinion. I definetly disagree.

    ReplyDelete
  21. shes not dumb, she was just speaking her opinion

    ReplyDelete
  22. her rights were not violated in any way

    ReplyDelete
  23. They shouldnt have even asked the question in the first place it was a question that was not needed

    ReplyDelete
  24. Should the Miss Iowa not like corn? no she shouldnt, she should represent her state just like Miss California by supporting what her state stands for.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I also think that her question was not very good. Most likely it was coming from a gay man himself and no matter how she answered it some people would not like it no matter how she answered.

    ReplyDelete
  26. 2. I don't believe Carrie Prejean's first amendment rights have been violated--she was able to say what she said. The first amendment doesn't guarantee that no one will slander you for your beliefs--it guarantees that the government won't persecute you for them, and Carrie Prejean hasn't been arrested or harmed for her opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Personally, I think she was discrimminated against by the judge in Miss USa, and her right to free speech was impeded by both the organization she was in, and also by the judges

    ReplyDelete
  28. FirstAmendment, the state of California CHOSE Carrie Prejean as their Miss California. A state's candidate does not have to represent the political majority in their state.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I do beleive she was discriminated against for her answer and should not be punished for her and her religion's opinion on gay marrage.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I don't think her first amendment was violated because she spoke her opinion and nobody prosecuted her for that.

    ReplyDelete
  31. The judges could have decided that she wasn't miss usa beacause they didn't share the same beleifs. but if that is the case would she have been better off giving an answer that would please the judges but telling a lie?

    ReplyDelete
  32. I also agree with goat and jared

    ReplyDelete
  33. I don't agree with first amendment.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Hey everyone,

Just saw this on tv this morning. Looks like Carrie was on "Larry King Live" Tuesday night. Copy and paste the link to checkout what happened. It is interesting.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/11/12/carrie-prejean-threatens_n_354891.html

    ReplyDelete
  35. That's really weird...I can see why she didn't want to answer the question, but I don't see why she left. He DID switch topics.

(btw, just so people know, my previous posts are under indigoviolet but I couldn't get that to work at home so I changed accounts.)

    ReplyDelete
  36. I think her first ammendment right was violated, she had a right to say what she did. I think she should have won.

    ReplyDelete
  37. On the Larry King live interview he shouldn't of been asking confidental questions after she told him it was confidential.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I am not really sure if she was discriminated against, because I don't understand where she is coming from. She is going to school to learn about the bible. Where in the bible does is say marriage or anything has to be between a man and a woman? How do you know one of the 12 disciples wasn't gay? You don't, her opinion is gay marriage shouldn't be allowed, but I think she is the one with the double standards.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I believe everyone has freedom of speech. But was she violating gay people's religous beliefs? I think a better answer would have been I would leave it up to the states, everyone has the right to their own religon and opinion. As does Carrie Prejean, but I also think by saying marriage between a man and woman is voilating other people's religion or freedom of speech.

    ReplyDelete
  40. After watching some of the videos I am glad that she didn't win Miss USA, because she has a lot of double standards. She believes in God and in teachings of God your taught to love your neighbor as you love yourself. She doesn't love herself. She used pagent money to get a boob job. She is very thin and goes on stage in front of billions of people in clothing that barley covers herself. She doesn't believe in Gay Marriage but she thought it was OK to send a video of herself to her boyfriend of the time. Not mistaken I think thats a sin! How can you be so crucial on one issue but when it comes to other things it's I didn't do that or it didn't happen like that. If its on tape or picture it's proof, and she has a lot of proof.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I honestly don't understand these pagents at all. If you have ever watched them, nobody on that stage is themselves. They diet a lot, loose tons of weight so they look really thin, they tan way to much. They get plastic surgeries, and its all basically about who is prettier. Who wants someone to represent America when they can't go on stage and be themselves. Why do they have to wear swim suits as part of the competition? Carrie might have lost Miss USA for speaking her opinion about gay, but other people lost it because they aren't pretty enough.

    ReplyDelete
  42. My last comment is..Is it freedom of speech or reliogon to be gay? and if yes then did she voilate the people who choose to be gay?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Carrie should not have been critized for her answer she was just telling her opinion. What was she sopposed to do lie? People would be upset either way.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I agree with Jade the judges basically just vote for you if your really pretty. The question is sopposed to be also judged on how quiclky you answer it w/o studdering.

    ReplyDelete
  45. overall, I think this violates her freedom of speech. You can always ask a question always expect the answer YOUR looking for.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Yes i do. she should be able to say her belief with out getting into trouble

    ReplyDelete
  47. If she didn'' win becasue of what she said that isn't right either because they asked her the question and she answered it how she felt so she shouldn't get into trouble

    ReplyDelete
  48. I think her rights were crossed because people didn't like her answer and she didn't win

    ReplyDelete
  49. I AGREE WITH KARA IF SHE WOULD HAVE LIED PEOPLE WOULD HAVE BEEN MADE AT HER STILL SO IT IS A GOOD THING SHE TOLD THE TRUTH

    ReplyDelete
  50. I do agree this question shouldn
t have been asked because someone would have been made either way

    ReplyDelete
  51. Jade, I agree with you that Carrie Prejean is a hypocrite because she promotes Christian beliefs with her words but basically 'sells sex'(using the term loosely) by being in pageants.

However, I disagree with your opinion on her statement. You said yourself, "Who wants someone to represent America when they can't go on stage and be themselves?" Well, that's what Carrie Prejean did--she went onstage and...was herself. She answered the question according to her beliefs.

Also, to everyone: The question wasn't whether the decision should be left up to the states. It IS the states' decision--that much was implied in the question. She was not asked WHETHER the states should choose, but WHAT they should choose, and that is a crucial distinction.

    ReplyDelete
  52. i believe it could have been violated if that is the real reason she was 'fired', because it was her belief and firing her for saying it is just as bad as not letting her say it at all.

    ReplyDelete
  53. yes i do think she was discriiminated against because she said what she was thinking, they dont have pageants to hear what they think they want the same basic opinions in the girls but judge on who is pretties or who has the best smile, she may have used her freedom of speech, but i think she also violated others freedom of religion.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I believe that her rights have been violated, they should not have a judge that may have a bad reaction to one of the questions.

    ReplyDelete
  55. personally, I dont agree with pagents at all, and i would not have chosen her as a winner, because of the way that she has conducted herself, but i do believe that her rights were wiolated

    ReplyDelete
  56. well, i feel kinda like an idot sitting here commenting on my own things lol.....but she was punished for her opinion, and even though i do not agree with her opinion i believe the way people reacted was wrong

    ReplyDelete
  57. chloe, i personally do not like pagents, but i do not believe that being in pagents sells sex.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Well, pageants were originally just about who was prettier but then they decided to add intelligence and opinion questions in to add another dimension. The pageants follow the current outlook on what is 'beautiful' and as such would change at a moments notice if the outlook were to change.

    ReplyDelete
  59. That being said, I also must state that she was not violating or even impeding the 'religious' beliefs of others, specifically homosexuals. Homosexuality is NOT a part of their faith, it is a part of their personality. Her opinion was just put out there and in a way that was just being stated as her opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  60. People that say her opinion is violating the religious freedom of others also need to see that if that is the case then isn't Carrie being similarly persecuted? They started to tear down her beliefs, even to a higher extent than what was deserved and to what she supposedly did to others. How is that fair or appropriate?

    ReplyDelete
  61. And even though she has beliefs contrary to her state's decision, she still specifically stated that she did indeed support its decision on that topic. So, what is wrong with her saying her opinion when she obviously supported what the judge wanted? Only the prejudiced judge could tell us but he seems to have gone under the radar

    ReplyDelete
  62. How many people actually got hurt by her proclamation? How many lawsuits were filed against her by people who wanted compensation for discrimination? None. So, isn't that a very good indication that what she said isn't that big a deal? The judge just blew it so far out of proportion that he made himself seem like a fool.

    ReplyDelete
  63. All that taken into account, really what is the point of this argument? She had a large paycheck to live off of and it isn't our fault if she blew it. This should have died down a couple days after it happened but then the media stepped in and 'covered' it, which just made it last longer.

    ReplyDelete
  64. In no way did this issue warrant such attention. The media should focus on more important things, like our crumbling infrastructure. That's just a different topic though. Back to the topic at hand, yes her rights her violated, yes she was discriminated against, yes it was wrong for her to be fired, but no it isn't outside of the people's rights to do that to her, except for the amendment violation of course.

    ReplyDelete
  65. This topic should just end, it has wasted enough of the lives of people. It had concluded pretty much before it started to get publicly known.

    ReplyDelete
  66. As an afterthought, the 'sex tape' was legal since it was sent to her boyfriend at the time and not sent to be disseminated throughout the mediums. As soon as the boyfriend put it out there, he broke the law since he just wanted to wring some money out of Prejean. So, why not put him in jail? It all boils down to the system getting bogged down in corruption

    ReplyDelete
  67. i do believe that she should represent her state and their beliefs. She got runner up in miss america, so its not like she got penalized for her question. miss california and her fans are making a big deal out of second and their exscuse is because she answered wrong

    ReplyDelete
  68. As of today I have changed my opinion on this situation because carrie is now accused for having 8 more sex tapes in my opinion carrie is a huge lier she lied on the today show to the whole nation

    ReplyDelete
  69. i agree with some of gabriels comments

    ReplyDelete
  70. i do not think she should have even been a canidate for miss california or usa

    ReplyDelete
  71. I think that she was discriminated against for her answer and that things got blown way out of proportion. She simply was stating her opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I don't think her first amendment rights were violated because people may be disagreeing with what she said but they are still letting her talk and have free speech.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Either way with what she might have said... whether she was for or against gay marriage.... she would have had people that were against what she said. Her telling the truth and her honest opinion was all she could do and all the judges should have looked at.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I think the "sex tape" was taken too far. That had nothing to do with what she said and should have never been brought into everything. It was wrong, yes, but had nothing to do with her answer.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Jade- I don't think that by saying marriage is between a man and a woman is violating other people's freedom of religion or speech. That was simply her opinion and she was not forcing anyone to agree with her or downplaying anyone else's opinion or belief.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I do believe that she was discriminated against based on the answer that she gave the judges.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I also believe that the question should not have been asked in the first place. It is an opinion question and someone should have seen the issues that could come from her saying she is for or against it. Either way it would have created problems and made someone unhappy/

    ReplyDelete
  78. I believe that Miss America is intended to represent all Americans and special traits that the judges feel the contestants should have. One of these traits is honesty and I believe that by being honest she was discriminated against. One of the judges obviously was not happy with her answer he clearly wish she would have said it was ok. If she would have she would have been lying which is not what this is all about. I think that by telling the truth she was penalized and that is what cost her Miss America.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I think that the sex tape thing is completely unrelated to this issue. Was it wrong of her to do that? Yes, but she had no intention of that getting to the public eye. I think that her boyfriend should be punished for that and it was wrong of the judge to make it more public than it had to be.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I do not believe that her first amendment rights were violated because she was able to voice her opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Yes I believe she was discriminated against for her answer and should not have been. I think she had every right to answer as she did.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Also I believe that the media, after her statement, scraped up as much background on her as they possibly could, making the situation a way bigger deal then neccessary.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Yes, i believe that Carrie's 1st amendment right was violated aganist because she has the freedom of speech to state her own opinion. She was not forceing others to follow or believe the same as her, she was just answering the question asked.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Why was the question asked in the first place? Is there really an answer that would not have offended anyone in the U.S.? It should have been known prior to the pagent that a question like this would cause wide controversy.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Overall, i think this situation has been blown way out of proportion and by Carrie's statement in the pagent she should not be discriminated aganist, but now with all this other information about her, she has a lot coming for her

    ReplyDelete
  86. Carrie got judged by her opinion and thats wrong and i beleive is against the 1st amendment

    ReplyDelete
  87. I think if you ask a person that answers your question and it offends you it should be your fault for what they say and you shouldnt take offense to it

    ReplyDelete
  88. If the judge wasnt gay she would have won but since he was he took strong offense to it

    ReplyDelete
  89. And i believe that this question should be omitted from being asked

    ReplyDelete
  90. i do not think that the 1st amendment was broken because he also has the freedom of speech

    ReplyDelete
  91. i think that she was discriminated agenst but who really care everyone get discriminated agenst everyday anyway so stop all of your crying and get over it!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  92. i think that people should start to see the big picture and just try to be nice or go dig your self a hole and live in it

    ReplyDelete
  93. i say we all hold hands and sing kumbaya

    ReplyDelete
  94. I think her first amendment rights were violated because by her saying HER OPNION and having people hate her for it. No matter what she answers someone is not going to be happy.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I dont really think she was discrimanated against because not everyone completely hates her for her answer... Only the people who are extremists for same sex marriage hate her...

    ReplyDelete
  96. I agree with Marissa,

"Also I believe that the media, after her statement, scraped up as much background on her as they possibly could, making the situation a way bigger deal then neccessary."

Just because people didn't like her answer they found more reasons to not like her so they could say she didn't win for different reasons OTHER than the gay comment...

    ReplyDelete
  97. So I just watched that think that Mr. Appleton asked us to.. And she was being very immature and if she really did have a sex tape how in world did she get to run for Miss California!?!?!?!?

One she was 17 at the time so that is illegal and when you are running to represent a state I am pretty sure you CAN'T have made a sex tape or any "racey" pictures.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Last but not least Perez needs to grow up along with all the other people for same-sex marriage. If you are for it then be for it. Don't get all angry about it. Everyone has their own beliefs and there is no need to argue with them about it.. People are stubborn and don't want to change weither it be for the better or not.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I think she was discriminated for her answer

    ReplyDelete
  100. but the judge also have the right to comment on her answer because of the 1st amendment

    ReplyDelete
  101. this topic can go both ways so i think they shouldn't questioned her on this

    ReplyDelete
  102. but i still think she was discriminated

    ReplyDelete
  103. i think this was a hard topic to side on but i think no bodies 1st amendment was violated

    ReplyDelete
  104. Yes, I think that she was because she stands up for what she believed in.
Yes, I think that her first amendment has been violated. She has her rights to freedom of speech and she said what she believed in.

    ReplyDelete
  105. i think that her 1st amendment rights were violated but it was an unfair question becuase either way she answered it someone would of felt the discriminated

    ReplyDelete
  106. the sex tape was alittle ova board how was she able to run for miss california

    ReplyDelete
  107. i think there is bigger issues that matter than da opnion of a miss california contest

    ReplyDelete
  108. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  109. da united states makes a big deal about things that dont matter

    ReplyDelete
  110. it wouldnt of been a big deal if one of the judges wouldnt of been gay

    ReplyDelete
